Das Gerundium des Spanischen hat im Deutschen keine exakte Entsprechung.

Die regelmäßigen Verben auf -ar bilden das Gerundium durch Verbstamm plus -ando, die regelmäßigen Verben auf -er und -ir durch Verbstamm plus -iendo.

Sehr oft wird das Gerundium auch für sog. Verbalperiphrasen - also stilistische Figuren - genutzt.
1) estar plus Gerundium: gerade etwas tun
| Las chicas están cantando. | Die Mädchen singen gerade. |
| Estoy lavándome. | Ich wasche mich gerade. |
2) seguir plus Gerundium: etwas weiterhin tun; etwas immer noch tun
| Sigue cantando. | Er singt weiter. / Er singt immer noch. |
| Seguimos trabajando. | Wir arbeiten weiter. / Wir arbeiten immer noch. |
3) acabar plus Gerundium: am Ende etwas tun; damit enden, etwas zu tun / zu sein
| Acabas llorando. | Am Ende weinst du. |
| Acaban poniéndose enfadados. | Am Ende werden sie böse. |
salir plus Gerundium hat eine ähnliche Bedeutung wie acabar plus Gerundium. Gängiger ist aber die Konstruktion mit acabar.
4) salir plus Gerundium: zum Schluss etwas tun / sein
| Él siempre sale perdiendo / ganando. | Am Ende verliert / gewinnt er immer. |
4) llevar plus Gerundium: etwas (schon) tun seit
| Lleva trabajando tres años. | Er arbeitet (schon) seit drei Jahren. |
